Brief History

The School of Nursing University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH was officially opened on 12^th May 1973 by Mrs. Victoria Gowon. The school was established to educate students both in theory and practical with a view of educating and producing well equipped nurses of international standard that can meet the demands of present and future changes in health care delivery.

The first set of twenty-two (22) students were admitted in July 1973 and the second set of 23 were admitted in 1974. The first two set of students (numbering 45) graduated in December 1976 and May 1977 respectively with the school scoring 100% in each occasion. The school has maintained this high standard in theory and practicals in both internal and external examinations.

Our Role

School/College of Nursing U.B.T.H, Benin City Edo Nigeria is committed to teaching and learning for all student nurses year one to final year. We are also entrusted with important responsibilities such as:

Admit qualified candidates into the school.
Prepare the next generation of nurses and nurse leaders.
Ensure objective assessment and evaluation of students who can work independently on graduation.
Advance the use of information and technology for teaching and learning.
Advance the science and practice of psychology to prepare counselors and educators who help people to live full and healthy lives.
Prepare administrators to effectively manage learning systems and environments.
Advance the body of knowledge in nursing profession within the school/college
